Do Dental Benefits Roll Over?

The year is coming to an end, which means that most insurance benefits will be renewed in January. Unfortunately, these benefits don’t roll over into the new year and most insurance companies will pay for two cleanings and exams per year with no out of pocket to the subscriber.

Adults with a healthy mouth and no history of periodontal disease or cavities should visit their dentist twice a year. A cleaning appointment is necessary in order to complete an oral cancer screening, to check for small cavities that can’t be felt by the patient, and if a problem is developing, to treat it early. Adults with a history of periodontal disease should be seen more frequently. Though insurance companies do not often cover cleanings more than two times a year, visiting the dentist can be imperative in preventing the progression of periodontal disease.

Having a healthy mouth is important for your overall health. Don’t neglect your mouth until there is a detectable problem. Having dental insurance should not prevent you from seeking regular dental care. Your mouth deserves to be healthy!
